There are many different worlds - parallel universes - existing side by side, like pages in a book, just a thought away. We call this the multiverse, or Structure, the Creators domain.
The Nightlords are one of the most powerful races, their world is revered - and feared across the Structure. Feared because a quirk of evolution gave them the ability to Turn - to give in to the darkest side of nature - to become Stealer of Souls.
A double-edged ability most were as helpless to fight against as an addict. To be able to bind someone so close that they took the experiences, the emotions of another - tasted them, savoured them, lived them - drew strength from their psyches and drank their auras - and kept on taking until they Stole the very soul. If so inclined, a Stealer could go through a world like an epidemic.
There was a theory that Demons, Darkworlders and Angels were all part of the same race way back in time - but it was rarely a popular theory.
The, er, heroine of a Cold Day in Hell, is Azarial, a young demon just trying to make a living along with her employee, Tonk the imp. Until two Nightlords turn up, old friends of hers, but one of them is a Stealer, and both are on the run from bounty hunters. They ask Azarial to hide them…and her life goes downhill from there. Despite the fact Azarial’s Mom was always happy when the Nightlords came to see if her daughter could ‘come out to play’ when she was younger. But now they’re all older, the Sariel, the Fallen angel, isn’t so sure.
And you just know it’s going to be a bad day when you wake up with a stolen baby dragon in your kitchen…
